Buildcorp puts Procore Quality into action at the National Rugby Training Centre
Mandating quality at the National Rugby Training Centre
The Challenge
To create a world-class sports, entertainment and high-performance centre of excellence at the existing Ballymore Rugby Precinct, Buildcorp needed a centralised construction management platform to help it meet strict timeline, budget and quality expectations. The Queensland State and Australian Federal Government and broader sporting community would highly scrutinise the re-development of this traditional and much-loved spiritual home of Australian Rugby. The design and construct project needed to provide full transparency for clients, consultants and build teams to track and manage real-time outcomes to meet project expectations confidently.
The Solution
Procore Quality was implemented at Ballymore to help Buildcorp benchmark quality requirements and identify, resolve, and manage defects for the final phase of this unique project. Procore replaced the previous system of hard copy quality documentation and sign-offs, stored in lever arch folders. Procore was now the primary platform responsible for digitally recording and resolving observations, inspections, defects, and rework outcomes for over sixty contracting specialist firms on site. Procore made holding the appropriate tradespeople accountable easier and enabled better collaboration and commitment to milestones during the project to satisfy timeline and budget demands.
'Procore helped us underpin 'The Buildcorp Way' for quality management at Ballymore. This means we do the right thing today to hand over defect-free tomorrow. Procore is Buildcorp's system designed to put quality into action so we can exceed our client's expectations," said Mike Currie, Buildcorp Queensland General Manager.
The Results
- 70% improvement in quality standards
- 100% productivity with zero lost time injuries
- 100% completion of timeline and budget
“Procore has played a pivotal role in the digital transformation of our construction processes and systems. Having a single quality control system for all stakeholders enables transparent and rapid collaboration, connecting each person's critical roles in delivering better quality and lowering risk.”

The Vision for a World-Class Sports, Entertainment and High-Performance Precinct
The Queensland State and Australian Federal Governments funded the high-profile Ballymore re-development project jointly. It would house the first home for women’s rectangular sport, plus the new National Rugby Training Centre. Today, it is home to the Queensland Reds Men’s and Women’s professional Rugby programs, the Queensland Rugby Union administration offices, Buildcorp Rugby Academy for emerging players and various community programs. Additionally, it is likely to be an official venue for hockey during the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The pressure to deliver a multi-purpose high-performance centre saw the need for a cultural shift in how project teams could foster a quality-focused mindset across Buildcorp and its contract and consulting partners. Procore played a valuable role in facilitating seamless communication, collaboration and transparency among thousands of workers, helping identify patterns and optimisation opportunities. The Procore platform enhanced quality control, improved project communications and efficient documentation management.
Centralising Quality Data Provides Confidence for Exceeding Expectations
The first phase of the re-development of the Ballymore Precinct would deliver the new 3,010 seat McLean stadium and National Rugby Training Centre headquarters, transforming the home of rugby in Queensland. With its long association, support and understanding of the unique requirements for high-performance sporting venues, Buildcorp was contracted to deliver a multi-purpose site for sporting facilities, gymnasium, change rooms, recovery facilities (pools and sauna), café, offices and meeting and hospitality rooms.
Following implementation, Procore became the quality platform across the entire project and contracting teams. Procore Quality was mandated to review project quality objectives and manage trade partner performance via data from thousands of inspections, observations, defects, and over thirty group tours that monitored quality standards. Real-time access to data within the Procore platform during daily team meetings with all contract partners proved invaluable, helping team members assess the progress of action items and how to best assist or guide resolutions to resolve delays quickly. The project stayed on time and was never delayed in unnecessary documentation or detail.
Procore simplified the project management team's work. Centralised data made it easy to understand what was happening on-site from a sign-off and quality perspective.
“The quality of the finished product at the National Rugby Training Centre was of primary importance for our client. Many people use the facility every day, let alone on game days when the stadium is full. The build's aesthetics were important, and Procore allowed us to manage that daily in our final stage. Procore made collaborating and rectifying quality issues easier via real-time photos and emails and meant everyone exceeded our quality requirements,” commented Luke May, Buildcorp Quality Manager.
Commitment to Systems, Processes and Continual Learning drives Quality Outcomes
The initial success of Procore on the Ballymore project has led to the adoption of Procore across all Buildcorp construction projects since late 2023. Today, Procore is the trusted platform for all of Buildcorp’s project correspondence, issuing notices upstream and downstream, RFI management and document control, and the use of Quality tools.
Procore has also played a key role in gathering and developing construction data, filtering this back into Buildcorp’s overall operations, leveraging lesson learnt reports and eliminating errors being made twice – lifting quality standards, meeting benchmarks and exceeding client expectations.
“Following a considered integration, Buildcorp launched its own Procore Training Centre with structured content supporting ‘The Buildcorp Way’,” outlined Toni Hall, Buildcorp Commercial Business Systems Manager. “The Procore Training Centre is available to all Buildcorp project teams and provides relevant guides on Procore tools and applications that also incorporate our policies and procedures.”
Procore has given the Buildcorp site teams the confidence to use a mandated system that meets all requirements and manages risk. New levels of project transparency reveal trends, supporting rapid decision-making and effective communication with all stakeholders, an essential task in Buildcorp's growing government construction portfolio.
“Procore acts as a risk reduction tool for Buildcorp. It allows us to make rapid decisions with accurate data,” she said.
Creating additional world-class high-performance centres
Delivering 34 high-performance centres has seen Buildcorp cement its reputation for delivering outstanding venues with its partners. Engaging and listening to the people utilising the venue—from athletes to administrators—has helped them create something truly outstanding in Brisbane.
“The re-development of the first phase of the Ballymore Precinct and construction of the National Rugby Training Centre is unique. Its high-quality finish and value for money is an amazing result. The credentials are there for Buildcorp to support our phase two re-development as we head towards the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games, and we expect to see Buildcorp involved in that," outlined David Hanham, CEO of Queensland Rugby Union.
