GMS Elevator Services has a rich legacy in the vertical transportation industry, spanning four generations. Founded in 1987 by G. Mathew Simpkins, Pamela Simpkins, and Gordon Simpkins, and incorporated in 1992, GMS has grown from a small family-owned business to a thriving independent elevator company with over 30 employees. In 2003, GMS proudly introduced the fourth-generation elevator mechanic, Nathen Simpkins, to the company. Over the years, GMS expanded its capabilities to include the manufacturing of custom elevator equipment and hydraulics. The company’s ongoing commitment to growth and excellence is demonstrated through its adherence to industry-leading standards and the expertise of its team members. In 2003, GMS introduced a structured safety program, supported by an accredited state and federal program tailored specifically for elevator mechanics and apprentices. In 2025 we are pleased to announce the distribution partnership with Kohler Elevator to supply state of the art MRL Equipment to the Los Angeles area. In 2014, GMS expanded its offerings to include the refurbishment of elevator cab interiors, refinishing entrances, and installing new ceilings and flooring. These initiatives, alongside our ongoing focus on safety and growth, have contributed to the company’s continued success and ability to undertake larger, more complex projects. GMS has made significant strides in three key areas of the elevator industry: service, modernization, and new construction. We proudly service multiple school districts, college districts, nursing and retirement facilities, various LA County Facilities, hospitals, apartment complexes. We hope to continue growth through customer service. With customer satisfaction as our highest priority, GMS has fostered a service-oriented company culture that ensures we deliver projects—whether new installations, maintenance agreements, repairs, or modernization—on time and within budget. Our dedication to quality and efficiency continues to drive our success and growth in the elevator industry.
