Fort Myer Construction enhances visibility and workforce performance with Procore, improving communication and outcomes
The Challenge
Fort Myer Construction, a leading civil and infrastructure general contractor, struggled with manual and fragmented processes. The self-performing GC works on many complex projects, but without a comprehensive source of data, the team lacked visibility into project and workforce performance.
The Solution
As Fort Myer has grown rapidly over the past 50 years, the team needed the right software to organize their projects, stay connected with their workforce and create transparency for stakeholders. After searching for the right solution, Fort Myer discovered Procore — and the transformation began.

Fort Myer Construction
“Building the American Dream.”
Creating and maintaining some of the most important infrastructure on the East Coast, Fort Myer Construction has been proudly serving Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. for over 50 years. From its beginnings as a driveway and patio paver, Fort Myer is dedicated to “Building the American Dream for DC, Maryland and Virginia.” The award-winning civil and infrastructure general contractor is responsible for bridges, highways, streets, electrical work, site improvements, snow and ice removal, asphalt paving and supply, 24/7 emergency assistance and design-build projects across these historic areas.
Transforming Workforce Performance and Relationships
With over 900 employees, Fort Meyer self-performs complex projects thanks to their dedicated team. Fort Myer is proud to support its own employees in achieving their own American Dream and is committed to success through safety, respect, quality, integrity, pride and community. With such a talented team, Fort Myer wanted to find a way to get better insight into workforce performance so they could incentivize and adjust as needed.
When they discovered Procore, Fort Myer was excited to leverage the platform to gain visibility into their team’s strengths and opportunities for growth. Philip Constantino, a project manager at Fort Myer, is passionate about how Procore has been the catalyst for better employee relationships.
“You're gonna need to do the things that you need to do to retain people, incentivize people and motivate people to work with you and for you, right? And technology's really helped us do that specifically,” says Constantino. “It makes our relationship with our employees more transformational as opposed to transactional. Technology gives us the ability to analyze who our top performers are and then analyze who are not. In construction, people work really, really hard and I think there's beauty in rewarding those people.”
With a single source of truth, the Fort Myer team is equipped with up-to-date information about every skilled worker, ensuring that the right people are on the right job at the right time. In the civil and infrastructure sector, this is especially important as teams self-perform incredibly complex work.
“When Procore gives you that type of visibility that allows you to say, ‘Hey, this guy employee deserves more credibility,’ or ‘this worker deserves a promotion,’ or ‘this person deserves an incentive, or conversely that this individual deserves not to have a part of this organization because they’re not meeting the standard, right?” That's like how you build a cultural foundation. That’s why Procore is great for heavy civil,” says Constantino.
Constructing Jobs for the Next Generation
With potential employees seeking technology-driven organizations, Fort Myer is positioned as a top-tier employer through the implementation of Procore. Procore is key to attracting the next generation of workers because developmental programs can be structured around the platform. With an unlimited-user model, Procore makes it easier for organizations like Fort Myer to onboard both full-time and part-time employees on the platform, whether they need to use it once or every day. Procore's free certification programs enable new and experienced professionals alike to stay up to date with the software.
“Procore is great for heavy civil because it is the construction discipline which requires the most self-performance,” says Constantino. “When you have the data at your fingertips, once you start leveraging these tools at their maximum capacity, you're able to develop a level of intimacy with your workforce that matters.”
The Right Partner for Self-Performance
It’s critical to have not only the right technology but for that solution to offer support and real partnership as well. As a self-performing general contractor, Fort Myer knows that their people matter, and Procore has been a true partner in ensuring these relationships are fostered.
“We have the largest fleet of dump trucks on the East Coast,” says Constantino. “We have union employees and admin-based employees — our relationships with those people matter. I think that more firms in our position, they have boots on the ground. They have that owner-to-labor force relationship that a lot of GCs don't specifically have. And that matters a lot.”
Partnered with the right platform for success, Fort Myer is able to continue building the American Dream.
