Streamlining operations with construction technology experts
Skanska partnered with Procore to transform operations, improve data accessibility, and optimize collaboration
The Challenge
With business dating back to 1887, Skanska is the fifth-largest construction company in the world. Its experience and reputation make it one of the leading construction and project development companies globally, and its commitment to innovation makes it stand out from the rest. However, like any large business, Skanska’s job volume and quality standards call for the most efficient project management possible. With that in mind, Skanska knew it needed a strategic technology partner that deeply understood the construction industry and would work to provide a platform that met all of its needs.
The Solution
Focusing on innovation and a great user experience, Procore partnered with Skanska to gain an understanding of its business objectives and opportunities to deliver process improvements. Since implementing the Procore platform enterprise-wide, Skanska has realized remarkable value. From acting as a single source of truth for data and communication to its ability to link and tie information together with only a few clicks, Procore has helped Skanska streamline project management in a user-friendly way.
“I always have the latest, greatest update, and we all share the same information. That's why I recommend having Procore for the entire construction field.””

A Strategic Partnership and a Single Platform
With massive business comes massive needs. The Procore team has worked closely with Skanska and other construction leaders to ensure the software fits each company’s business model and workflows, allowing businesses to customize it in their own ways. As a result of collaborating with our customers and the construction industry as a whole, the Procore platform has made multiple integrations into one platform possible, providing project visibility for everyone, and helping stakeholders prioritize their days.
Ron Smith, Training and Cost Management Specialist, noted, “Procore is really interested in that market feedback — ‘What are our users telling us that they need?’ — as opposed to what I've seen some other software companies do, which is come up with the next big thing, then develop and spend all this time with it, and the market ends up passing them by because they didn't understand what the market needed.” Matthew Williams, Senior Project Manager, commented, "The Procore team works with us to make sure that it fits our business model — that it integrates with what we already do and how we already work."
Procore listened to understand and address Skanska’s pain points, and this has resulted in a platform that is uniquely effective. Now, Skanska has a single source of truth for all project information and facilitation needs. Instead of navigating different software and putting pieces of information together like a puzzle, Procore integrates all information into one place that is accessible anywhere, at any time. Williams stated, “As we manage projects on a day-to-day basis, all our project information is under one umbrella. Instead of volleying different items through the architect or engineer’s software, we integrate them into one platform, giving the owner full visibility. It allows us to pull in information and still keep it under one umbrella as we manage projects on a day-to-day basis.” Through the platform, Skanska teams save time and energy, which helps ensure quality results.
Complex Technology that’s Simple to Use
In an industry with ups and downs regarding identifying and adopting the right technology, Skanska employees and stakeholders have found that using Procore Project Management Software has been an easy transition. Jimmy Mitchell, Senior Director of Business Development, stated, “The average person who doesn't know anything about software can pull out an iPad or use a computer to navigate the system with a few quick guides and training aids for support.” Expanding on this, Williams said, “Procore has an easy user interface. We can utilize the applications on our phones or iPads in the field and find whatever we need with just a couple of clicks. It helps all of our users embrace new technology instead of being standoffish or avoiding using it.”
One of the most significant benefits of using a single platform, according to Smith, is searchability. He emphasized, “The strength of Procore is definitely searchability. I don't necessarily need to know everything about an issue — all I have to know is an RFI number or a date. With that, I can go through the entire system and search for the ability to link and tie information together. It's created a way to leverage technology so that when I go to find one thing, I can find the entire history of that item in one place.” In today's fast-paced construction industry, having the right tools at your disposal is crucial. With a singular platform that remains up-to-date, Skanska can be more proactive with easily accessible, real-time updates.
The simple user design has enabled Skanska stakeholders to create a streamlined workflow, without a steep learning curve. One feature that teams find especially useful is the dashboard, which allows project managers to see the entire project's status in one place. Antonio Oliveira, Project Manager, said, “With a quick glance, it shows the whole project and helps me find out the project’s health and team productivity, while also highlighting any trouble spots. It also helps me prioritize my day, where my attention is divided, and where I need to put a lot of my time.”
Skanska’s user adoption of Procore has gone so well, in fact, that in a short amount of time, employees have made massive strides. Amy Jones Snider, Director of Data and Analytics, recounted, “It's really exciting to see multiple project teams embracing technology on a daily basis. Recently, I've seen project teams use a model and track the work put in place on a project in real-time, and then use that data from those data visualizations to make adjustments and move forward.”
