Skanska partners with Procore to build a better future
Building more sustainably using Procore Construction Management Platform
The Challenge
Skanska is the fifth-largest construction and project development company in the world, and it’s committed to building for a more sustainable future. To Skanska, the construction industry has massive potential for positive, lasting change. However, as a company familiar with using the latest technologies to design and build, Skanska realized it needed to incorporate technology to streamline project management and facilitate communication to avoid potential mistakes. That's where Procore stepped in.
The Solution
Since integrating the Procore Project Management Software, Skanska has been able to manage its projects more efficiently and effectively. Most importantly, though, the Procore platform has enabled stronger communication, with employees and stakeholders able to easily communicate and remain on the same page as projects progress. With improved communication, Skanska is better equipped to continue to setting the standard for sustainable construction.
“The speed and accuracy of communication is really important. Any tool that can make us more efficient is more sustainable.”

Building Together for a Better Future
Building for a sustainable future can be a daunting task, but with innovative technology and collaboration, it is achievable. Skanska has proven this with the Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design at Georgia Tech – the first fully certified “living building” in the state of Georgia. As Shan Arora, Director of the Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design, described, “A living building is a building that seeks to give back more to nature. It's regenerative with nature, and it's restorative with people.”
Using repurposed and reused materials, Skanska and its partners successfully designed and constructed a building that reduces both waste and carbon emissions. The project involved collaborating with organizations such as Georgia Works and the Lifecycle Building Center. With hopes of setting a new precedent for sustainable building practices, partnering with Procore was a natural next step toward using technology to instill greener practices.
Improving Communication to Advance Sustainability Standards
As a giant in the construction industry, Skanska knows that communication is key to achieving their client’s goals. Accurate and timely communication can help to avoid costly mistakes, both financially and in terms of conservation. The company understands that quality communication enables quality standards, and requires a software solution to meet those needs.
With that in mind, Skanska partnered with Procore to use project management software to further support its sustainability efforts. The Procore team had already worked with Skanska to ensure the software was a perfect fit for their business model, and through their collaboration Skanska had a customized platform that integrated information seamlessly and served as a “one voice of truth” for project management. Using Procore, Skanska employees and stakeholders have real-time updates within one, centralized platform. This has improved communication across the board and helped Skanska avoid costly rework and mistakes, both financially and in terms of conserving resources.
The Kendeda Building became a strong example of the importance of collaboration through innovative technology and processes–by working together, creating a sustainable future is within arm’s reach. Jimmy Mitchell, Skanska’s Senior Director of Business Development, spoke of these potential benefits, stating, “What role does Procore play in sustainability? I think its strength is as a communication tool. The speed of communication and the accuracy of communication are really important. For example, if we make a concrete pour and an RFI isn't correctly communicated, a plan isn't perfectly described, the spec isn't on target, and the pour happens, and we have to tear it out – I can't think of a worse sustainability incident.”
For Skanska, Procore's strength lies in its ability to act as a communication tool, allowing for fast and accurate information to travel between everyone involved in a project. By integrating all aspects of the construction process into one platform, Procore enables projects to flow in a smooth, cost-effective, and ultimately, sustainable manner.
