Chevelon Butte Wind Farm
Arizona’s largest wind farm — honoring tradition while providing unprecedented renewable, clean energy
“It’s all in one platform that everyone has access to, and all of the information is right there.”

454 MW. 42,000 acres. 105 wind turbines.
On the 42,000 acres of Chevelon Butte Ranch, one of Arizona’s oldest cattle ranches, history is being made. AES, a global energy company committed to innovation, is creating a 454 MW wind energy facility in Coconino and Navajo Counties. “When it’s finished, it will be the largest windfarm in Arizona,” said Brian Hoesman, Senior Project Manager on the site. It is a dual-phase project set to complete in 2024, offering clean, cost-effective power to approximately 110,000 households.
While this wind farm is unprecedented, AES is also committed to enabling the continued conservation and livestock ranching of the private and state land it’s built on. Additionally, this project is generating a substantial amount of job opportunities for the area, further stimulating the local economy.
For such a landmark project, AES needed a single source of truth to share, generate and securely store critical data — and Procore was there as the solution. Requiring careful collaboration between private and public entities, contractors and the local community, Procore enables AES with a central hub to exchange information. “You can go from never having seen [Procore] before, to fully operational with very little instruction,” said Hoesman. Procore keeps everyone on the same page anytime and anywhere. Its mobile capacity has been a game-changer on the projects, from easy compilation of Daily Logs and Observations to quick access of Inspections and Incidents.
Creating a wind farm requires a significant amount of repetitive work to craft the 105 turbines and all additional assets. Procore helps AES and all stakeholders keep track of exactly where they are in the project and reduce redundancy, like double data entry. Working in a remote area with limited signal, Procore’s mobile capacity is a game-changer, allowing teams to stay connected anytime, anywhere. Instead of having to rely on risky manual solutions like paper and pen, the AES team leans on the much more secure — not to mention sustainable — option of software.
As AES continues to build the unprecedented, Procore is there to support every step of the way.
