“Building a Better Texas”
In 1969, Steve Rogers and Pat O’Brien had a dream to build beyond the status quo — they knew there was “A Better Way.” Their vision fueled the creation of Rogers-O’Brien, now a well-respected leading general contractor. Today, Roger’s-O’Brien has grown to multiple offices in Dallas, Austin, Waco, Houston and San Antonio.
The Texan general contractor has been especially focused on technology and innovation over the past few decades and has always been keen to take advantage of the latest software and tools available. This natural inclination towards digital transformation made Procore a great fit for Rogers-O’Brien. The general contractor wanted to improve their collaboration, safety and preconstruction — and ultimately discovered that Procore could help do all this and more.
Transparency and Collaboration
Nick Vargo, a project manager in the operational excellence department at Rogers-O’Brien, is enthusiastic about the way Procore improves every process and workflow:
“The unique experience that Rogers O'Brien brings to a project is visibility and insight into what's going on in the project in real-time,” says Vargo. “When you have everything under one roof, one platform and you give your owner, client, architect, whoever it may be, the proper access to get in there, RFIs, submittals, photos, observations and drawings are accessible in real-time with the most up-to-date information.”
Rogers-O’Brien is able to provide real-time visibility to their clients with Procore, leveling up their transparency and getting questions answered quicker. “It goes back to that collaboration — everyone's on the same playing field, they're reading the same chapter of the same book and they're able to be speaking the same language,” Vargo says. “It's really helped us to reduce external questions, "What's going on today, what's happening, where’s he at with this?" It's all there.”
Committing to Safety — Every Day, Every Project
At Roger’s-O’Brien, safety is paramount. Whether building a school or a warehouse, it’s critical to keep skilled workers safe and confident in their workspace. Procore allows Rogers-O’Brien to keep a close eye on safety stats across projects, reduce rework and ultimately avoid potential issues.
“The most overarching way Procore can improve safety on our projects is directly related to man hours and rework,” says Vargo. “We have a platform that is going to allow us to track our incidents better, our insights for safety measures better, it's going to allow us to reduce rework. At the end of the day, all those things reduce the hours spent on the job — and fewer hours means less chance of incident from safety.”
The information Roger’s-O’Brien gets out of Procore in regard to safety is invaluable. They’re able to take meaningful steps towards minimizing incidents and fostering a culture of safety across every job.
“We're leveraging all of those data points and insights to build a better, safer job,” Vargo says. “We've integrated with the analytics, the safety dashboards and that's embedded in our account. It's able to give our safety teams insights on incidents that have occurred, pinpointing areas and things like that. We can be proactive in measures to create a safer job site, but also to learn so that going forward we can try to do better and to put measures in place to make those jobs run smoother and safer.”
Looking to the Future
The next frontier for Rogers-O’Brien in their ongoing partnership with Procore is preconstruction. They’ve already realized huge value from their adoption of Procore’s Project Execution and Financial Management solutions. That success has prompted a lot of enthusiasm for what Procore’s Preconstruction solution could mean for the team.
“The future of preconstruction with regards to Procore and the investments they've made is really exciting to Rogers-O'Brien. We are very much looking forward to the ability to hold all of the data for preconstruction within Procore and not having to farm that from other systems. We are an ERP-integrated client with Vista for Accounting, so being able to hold the preconstruction budgeting, the bid tools and all those sorts of things within Procore and be able to seamlessly bring those over into commitments, and therefore build out your job from there is going to be huge for us.”
With an unwavering dedication to innovation, Rogers-O’Brien is poised to construct an even brighter future for Texas.
